Geography:

Lao Cai is located in a convenient location connecting the Northwest region with the Northern Midlands. With a particularly important geographical location, Lao Cai is also the economical bridge of the Con Minh - Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong economic corridor, an important gateway and the shortest route connecting Vietnam, ASEAN and Yunnan, China. Also, from Yunnan to the southwestern provinces of China, Lao Cai has an outstanding advantage in attracting commercial investment. Therefore, the socio-economic development of the Lao Cai province is positioned as a close relationship with international countries, regional economic integration through regional connection.

Transportation: 

Going from Lao Cai to Hanoi by the highway now only takes pproximately.4 hours, to Noi Bai Airport is just 3.5 hours. Once the Sapa Airport is completed and expect to put into operation in 2025, the economic and tourism sector in Lao Cai is predicted to strongly developed.

 In 1909, Chapa Hotel located on the road from Sapa to Lao Cai, was opened. Since 1914, with the goal of building a real "summer capital" in the Northern mountains, in the direction of civilization. That same summer, the materials needed to build the resort and its attached serviced residences were moved from Hanoi to SaPa. Regular guests staying in SaPa at the time are mostly the French officials, but were not many: only about 50 people in 1942. In 1914, Fansipang hotel was built. In 1932, a luxury hotel, Le Metropole – with 50 luxury and 10 presidential rooms was opened, located at the foot of Ham Rong mountain and connected with the SaPa lake. Today, SaPa is still considered the "summer capital" of the North of Vietnam and a place that attracts tens of millions of domestic and international tourists every year.
